Section 100: I-95

Location: Baltimore City and County, MD

Client/Owner: Maryland Transportation Authority

Description: G&O conducted historical research, well monitoring, and oversaw field work to classify contaminated soils for proper disposal within the project area during construction. This included multiple sampling events, both composite and discrete, while providing GEC partners with written documentation regarding test results and recommendations. G&O developed a construction specification for disposal and assisted design with estimating the cost of soil disposal based on appropriate disposal locations in the area.

Significant Facts:

  • Test results revealed petroleum contamination in soils as a result of historical dumping prior to the construction of I-95.
  • G&O provided on-site services during construction and was regularly on-call for quick response to characterize newly uncovered soils.
