Greenhorne & O'Mara Project Wins Top Stormwater Award

LAUREL, MD – January 11, 2009 – Engineering consulting firm Greenhorne & O'Mara (G&O) announced that Storm Water Solutions (SWS) has selected its project – the Indian Creek Daylighting and CSO Abatement – as a 2009 Top Storm Water Projects winner. The projects were judged on innovation, technical excellence, and community benefits.

G&O was contracted by the City of Philadelphia, PA to design stream restoration and combined sewer overflow abatement solutions. The creek was experiencing eroding and undercut banks, a scoured streambed, and excessive silt deposits. The water body also received significant wastewater generated by industrial, agricultural, or municipal activities. G&O's solution keeps the stream from becoming rich in nutrients, which may result in algae blooms, which upon decay, reduces oxygen and can lead to a fish kill.

"We faced numerous challenges associated with the old age of the existing infrastructure. Our dedicated team was able to come up with a solution that was cost effective, safe, and met all the client’s needs," said Mary Searing, P.E., D.WRE, GISP.

Greenhorne & O'Mara (G&O) is a full-service engineering consulting firm that provides public and private sector solutions in the areas of infrastructure and design; transportation, environmental and water resources engineering; geospatial and information technology; and hazard mitigation and security services. G&O's 17 offices support projects located throughout the United States and overseas. Founded in 1950, G&O is an employee-owned firm that is consistently ranked by Engineering News Record among the top architectural/engineering design firms in the United States.
